Kabbalah describes the archangels as messengers of Divine will in action.
They carry the decrees of Heaven down to our human dimension.
In Kabbalah, we do not view the archangels as separate entities, but as symbols of Divine protection and grace that surrounds us.
 
Each Archangel is associated with protecting a different division of the manifested world.
Together, they create a balanced field of support — emotional, spiritual, and physical.
 
Michael – מיכאל
Associated with protection and courage.
Michael is linked to the element of water.
Gabriel – גבריאל
Associated with communication and guidance.
Linked to the element of fire.
Raphael – רפאל
Associated with healing and restoration.
Linked to the element of air.
Uriel – אוריאל
Associated with wisdom and Divine inspiration.
Linked to the element of earth.
 
Kriat Shema al ha-Mitah
In Kriat Shema al ha-Mitah (our bedtime prayer) we say:
בשם ה' אלהי ישראל,
מִימִינִי מִיכָאֵל,
וּמִשְּׂמֹאלִי גַּבְרִיאֵל,
וּמִלְּפָנַי אוּרִיאֵל,
וּמֵאֲחוֹרַי רְפָאֵל,
וְעַל רֹאשִׁי שְׁכִינַת אֵל
In the name of Hashem, the God of Israel:
At my right — Michael,
At my left — Gabriel,
Before me — Uriel,
Behind me — Raphael,
And above my head — the Shechina, the Divine (feminine) Presence.
 
The Archangels create a circle of protection,  guardians governed by the Divine loving Grace from above.
