ואהבת | And You Shall Love Engraved Bracelet

• And you shall love •

a single word that opens two of the most essential Jewish teachings,

First, ואהבת appears at the heart of the Shema prayer:
 
וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בְּכָל לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל נַפְשְׁךָ וּבְכָל מְאֹדֶךָ
“And you shall love Hashem your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.”
 
ואהבת also echoes the second great love, found in Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:18:
 
וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ אֲנִי יְהוָה
“You shall love your fellow as yourself. I am Hashem.”
 
Rabbi Akiva famously calls this verse the greatest principle of Torah,
a reminder that spirituality is not only what we feel,
it is how we treat people.
And how we refer to the Divine.
